Can’t recommend highly enough. Moving house and new to the area, I received a quick response to my first enquiry. Colin was super helpful and flexible despite me not knowing exactly what I needed or when. Once I was in my new place he completed the work quickly and to a high standard giving some extremely useful advice as well. Wouldn’t hesitate to use again. Thanks Colin.

Your local locksmith in Callander
Callander is the gateway to the Trossachs and its economy runs on people arriving. Stone terraces and villas along the Main Street, flats above the shops, older cottages behind, and a great deal of self-catering and holiday accommodation mixed in among the ordinary housing. We carry hardware to suit the range, so most jobs are finished in one visit rather than becoming a return trip for parts.
Letting guests in when you are not there. This is the practical problem that comes up more in Callander than anywhere else we cover, and it is worth solving properly. Guests arrive late, they arrive early, they arrive when you are two hours away, and the old answer was a key under a plant pot and a hopeful text message. There are two better options. A key safe, fitted somewhere out of sight of the street and not beside the door it opens, is simple, cheap and needs no power or wifi. A keypad lock goes a step further: you give a code rather than a key, you change the code between guests, and there is no key to be lost or copied. Neither is a security upgrade on its own — what protects the door is still the cylinder and the mechanism behind it — but for changeovers they solve a real problem.
Key control between bookings. Whichever route you take, the recurring issue is the same: keys that do not come back, keys copied at some point in the past, and no record of who holds what. A cylinder that can be changed quickly when a key goes missing turns that from a crisis into a small job, and a written note of who has what will deal with most of the rest.
Flats above the shops. A tourist main street means a lot of homes sitting directly above a business, with a shared street door serving the flats. That door takes heavy use and its lock is usually the first thing to fail. It is shared property, so it is not normally something one flat can order alone — we will tell you where you stand and quote in writing so it can be circulated to the other owners.
Older stone property. There is a good deal of older property here still on timber front doors. Insurers usually expect a five-lever mortice lock meeting BS3621 on a timber door, and plenty of these houses are on older two- or three-lever locks that would not meet that standard. Upgrading one is routine and does not change how the door looks.
Doors that have started to stick. On the newer housing the most common call is a door that has to be lifted or leaned on before the key will turn — usually the door dropping rather than the lock failing, and far cheaper to correct before the gearbox goes.
Whatever the job in Callander, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.

Locksmith in Callander: common questions
Yes. We look after holiday lets across Callander and the Trossachs, from lock changes between bookings to hard-wearing hardware for busy guest doors.
Two options work well. A key safe, fitted out of sight of the street and not beside the door it opens, is simple and cheap and needs no power or wifi. A keypad lock goes further — you give a code instead of a key, change it between guests, and there is no key to lose or copy. Neither makes the door itself stronger, so it is worth having the cylinder right as well, but for changeovers they solve a real problem.
For a let, often yes, because the problem they solve is genuinely yours: no key handover, no key to go missing, and a new code for every booking. Just be clear about what they are. A keypad is about access, not strength — the security of the door still comes from the cylinder and the mechanism. Fitted alongside decent hardware they work well; fitted instead of it, less so.
It is shared property, so normally a shared cost rather than one flat’s problem — and where there is a business in the building it can involve them too. If the building is factored, the factor usually arranges it; if not, the owners agree it between them. We are happy to quote in writing so it can be circulated to everyone who has to agree.
No. There is no call-out fee in Callander, and our no fix, no fee promise applies, we agree a clear price before we set off.
