That is very often a cheaper conversation than people expect, and it is not the one that sells the most hardware.

Ex-council streets. Right to buy means the doors no longer match. On one street you can find the original council-fitted door beside three privately fitted replacements on multipoint locks of different makes and ages. When a gearbox needs replacing, the make can often be identified from a photograph but the size cannot: it has to come out of the door and be measured, which is why we carry a large stock of the common ones in a range of sizes.

What your insurer actually asks for. For a timber door it is normally a five-lever mortice lock meeting BS3621; for a uPVC or composite door it is usually the cylinder and the anti-snap standards. Being five-lever is not the same as meeting the standard, and being new is not the same as being anti-snap. If you are not sure what you have, we will look and tell you plainly, including when the answer is that what you have is fine.
