What Our Customers Say

See why homeowners and businesses trust Scotia Locksmiths.

Friendly service. Got to us in 30 minutes and got the door unlocked very quickly! Definitely would call again if in a pickle 🙂

First class service. Arrived on time and had all the necessary tools and spares in the van. Door locking problem solved quickly and even had time to repair our front door which was not booked in with him for repair. Would definitely use again.

My mother’s front door recently jammed in locked position. I contacted Scotia Locksmiths and Colin attended promptly and quickly managed to open the door and identify the problem. A new part was required and he ordered it and returned the next day and fitted it. In the interim he fitted a deadlock, allowing my elderly mother to secure her home overnight. I am very happy with the service I received and would recommend Scotia/Colin. A great service – thanks Colin.

Your local locksmith in Scone

Scone sits right on the shoulder of Perth, which makes it one of the quickest places we reach. It is really two villages. New Scone is where most people live — street after street of post-war and modern housing, much of it built for people working in Perth. Old Scone, up by the Palace, is older and quieter. The doors differ accordingly, and so do the jobs.

The commuter estates. Most of New Scone is on uPVC or composite doors with multipoint locks. Builders usually fit a standard euro cylinder, and the cylinder is the part of a modern door a burglar is most interested in. An anti-snap replacement, certified to EN 1303 and built with a sacrificial break-away section, takes minutes to fit and costs a fraction of the door.

Doors that need lifting before the key will turn. The commonest call from any estate of this age, and it is almost always the door rather than the lock. The door drops slightly, the multipoint hooks stop lining up with the keeps, and the handle takes the strain instead. Caught early it is an adjustment. Left alone it becomes a failed gearbox, which costs more and can leave you locked in or out.

Older stone in Old Scone and along the main street. Timber front doors, and insurers usually expect a five-lever mortice lock meeting BS3621 on a timber door. A fair number are still on older two- or three-lever locks that would not meet that standard. If you are not certain which kind of lock you have, we can tell you at the door in a minute.

Being next door to Perth cuts both ways. It means we are rarely far away, and it means Scone gets the same opportunist trouble as the city edge — sheds, garages and cars on driveways. An outbuilding is usually the weakest structure on a plot, and the hasp and padlock it came with are rarely worth much.

Holiday lets and visitors. The Palace and the racecourse bring people through all year, and there is more short-term letting here than the size of the village suggests. The recurring problem is key control between guests. A cylinder that can be changed quickly deals with most of it, and doors can be keyed alike so a changeover means one key rather than four. There are also lock and fire-escape rules and a licence from Perth & Kinross Council if you let short-term.

Whatever the job in Scone, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.
