Your local locksmith in Bridge of Earn

Bridge of Earn sits just south of Perth with the motorway on its doorstep, which is most of the reason it has grown the way it has. There is an older village along the main street, and around it a great deal of newer housing — more new building here in the last few years than almost anywhere else we cover. That mix decides what we get called out to.

New-build doors and the cylinder that came with them. Most of the newer housing is on composite or uPVC doors with multipoint locks. Builders usually fit a standard euro cylinder, and that cylinder is the part of a modern door a burglar is most interested in. An anti-snap replacement, certified to EN 1303 and built with a sacrificial break-away section, takes minutes to fit and costs a fraction of the door. On a new estate it is the single most worthwhile upgrade there is.

A new door is not the same as a good lock. People reasonably assume that a house built two years ago must be secure. The door slab usually is. The cylinder in it is whatever met the specification most cheaply, and that is the part that gets attacked. It is worth knowing which you have before you need to find out the hard way.

Doors that need lifting before the key will turn. Even a fairly new door drops, and then the multipoint hooks stop lining up with the keeps and the handle takes the strain. Caught early it is an adjustment; left alone it becomes a failed gearbox, which costs more and can lock you in or out. A handle that has gone floppy is the warning.

The older village. Along the main street and the older lanes there are stone houses with timber doors, and insurers usually expect a five-lever mortice lock meeting BS3621 on a timber door. Plenty are still on older two- or three-lever locks that would not meet it. If you are not sure which kind of lock you have, we can look and tell you.

Commuting changes the pattern. A village where most of the street is at work in Perth or further afield is empty through the middle of the day, and garages, sheds and side gates matter more than people expect. Decent hardware on an outbuilding costs very little next to what is usually kept in it.

Whatever the job in Bridge of Earn, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.
