Your local locksmith in Glenfarg
Glenfarg sits down in the glen below the motorway, a mile off the road between Perth and Kinross and quiet with it. The village is largely one street of stone houses with newer building at either end, and a good number of people here commute north to Perth or south towards Edinburgh. Being tucked out of the way is pleasant to live with, and it does shape the work — a problem here has far fewer passers-by to notice it.
The glen holds the damp. Timber doors take up moisture and let it go again with the seasons. A door that was fine in July starts to bind in November, you put your shoulder to it, and the mechanism takes the strain. A sticking door is nearly always the door moving rather than the lock failing, and it is far cheaper adjusted than replaced.
Two kinds of door. The older stone houses have timber doors with mortice locks, where insurers usually expect a five-lever lock certified to the British Standard on a final exit door. The newer houses have uPVC or composite doors with a multipoint mechanism and a gearbox behind the handle. We carry parts for both in the van.
Empty through the day. With much of the village out at work from early until evening, it is worth a thought about the back door and the patio door as much as the front. The front door is the one everybody looks at, and the back is usually the softer of the two.
Sheds, garages and the stuff in them. Gardens here are big enough to have a store or a garage, and that is where bikes, tools and garden machinery end up. It is usually the weakest lock on the property and the cheapest to improve.
Parts on the van. Glenfarg is a run from the nearest merchant, so we carry a wide range of cylinders, mortice locks and gearboxes precisely so a job out here finishes on the first visit rather than waiting on a part.
Whatever the job in Glenfarg, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.

Locksmith in Glenfarg: common questions
We will give you an honest time when you call rather than an optimistic one — we are one van, so what we are already on decides the wait. What we can promise is that we carry a wide range of parts, so a job in Glenfarg is far more likely to be finished on the first visit than to need a second.
No. Mileage is included wherever you are and there is no call-out fee, so a job in Glenfarg is charged at the same rate as one in Crieff. The price is agreed with you before we travel.
Probably not. Timber doors move with the damp and a door that binds in winter is usually the door or the frame rather than the lock, and forcing it is what eventually breaks the mechanism. Caught early it is an adjustment; left alone it becomes a replacement.
Usually yes. On a timber door the lock sits inside the door, so bringing it up to a five-lever British Standard lock changes what is in the door rather than what you see on it. Where a fitting is visible we will do our best to match the finish already there.
Yes, and it is a common job. The important part is where it goes — out of sight of the street, not right beside the door it opens, and fixed into something solid rather than into mortar. We will put it somewhere sensible rather than somewhere convenient.
