What Our Customers Say
See why homeowners and businesses trust Scotia Locksmiths.
My mother’s front door recently jammed in locked position. I contacted Scotia Locksmiths and Colin attended promptly and quickly managed to open the door and identify the problem. A new part was required and he ordered it and returned the next day and fitted it. In the interim he fitted a deadlock, allowing my elderly mother to secure her home overnight. I am very happy with the service I received and would recommend Scotia/Colin. A great service – thanks Colin.

Your local locksmith in Cumbernauld
Cumbernauld was designated a new town on 9 December 1955 and built out over the following forty years, which means its housing is unusually consistent in age and unusually varied in what has happened to it since. Kildrum, Seafar, Abronhill, Carbrain, Condorrat and the rest were built to their own designs, and almost every door in them has been replaced at least once. We carry hardware to suit the range, so most jobs are finished in one visit rather than becoming a return trip for parts.
The planned estates. Each part of Cumbernauld was designed as its own neighbourhood, and the housing within each is broadly of a type — terraces, maisonettes and blocks of flats built to a common pattern. What has not stayed common is the doors. They have been replaced privately over five decades, so a single terrace can carry four different multipoint mechanisms of four different ages. The gearbox inside is not a standard part: a photograph will usually tell us the make, but the size can only be established by taking it out of the door and measuring it. That is why we carry a large stock of the common gearboxes in a range of sizes.
Flats, maisonettes and stair doors. Where you have a communal stair there are really two doors to think about, the stair door and your own front door. They fail in different ways and they are usually different jobs. Stair doors take more use than anything else in the building and their locks wear out first. Individual flat doors are often still on the cylinder fitted when the block was built.
Windows, not just doors. This is the part of a house people forget entirely. Insurers frequently require key-operated locks on accessible windows — ground floor, and anything reachable from a flat roof, a bin store or a low wall — and a great many homes here still have the original handles from when the windows were fitted. It is a small job and an inexpensive one. It is also the sort of thing that only comes up when someone reads their policy properly, which is usually after something has happened rather than before.
A town centre being rebuilt. North Lanarkshire Council is fifteen years into a plan to replace Cumbernauld town centre, with the shopping centre and Fleming House coming down and a new town hub going up in their place. It will change the middle of the town considerably over the next decade, and it brings the usual run of work with it: new commercial doors, changed access arrangements, and eventually new housing around it.
Doors that have started to stick. The most common call across Cumbernauld is a door that has to be lifted or leaned on before the key will turn. That is almost always the door dropping out of alignment rather than the lock failing. Realigning it early is a small job. Left alone the gearbox eventually breaks, and that is a bigger one.
Whatever the job in Cumbernauld, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.

Locksmith in Cumbernauld: common questions
Yes, from Kildrum and Seafar to Carbrain, Abronhill and the newer developments, we cover all of Cumbernauld’s estates.
Quite possibly, and it is worth checking rather than assuming. Many home insurance policies require key-operated locks on windows that can be reached from outside — the ground floor, and anything you could get to from a flat roof, a bin store or a low wall. Plenty of houses here are still on the handles the windows came with. It is a small, inexpensive job, and much better done before a claim than discovered during one.
Only if the locksmith turns up unprepared. Doors here have been replaced privately over fifty years, so the mechanism inside is rarely the same twice. A photograph of the strip down the edge of the door will usually tell us the make. The size of the gearbox can only be confirmed once it is out and measured, which is why we carry a wide range of the common ones — so in most cases the part is already with us.
Not necessarily, and it is worth asking before agreeing to anything. Sometimes the lock can be repaired, or the cylinder replaced while keeping the existing keying, so nobody else is affected. Where a full replacement is the right answer it comes with its own set of keys. We will tell you which of the two you are looking at before we start.
