What Our Customers Say

See why homeowners and businesses trust Scotia Locksmiths.

Colin arrived at exactly the time he said he would. This was great considering the distance he traveled to get here. It took him no time to replace two locks and he fitted locks far superior to the existing ones which gives me great peace of mind. He left plenty spare keys too. Superior service. John

Great and speedy service with good communication. Lock was changed quickly and very happy overall.

Friendly service, quick response time. Prices were quite fair. Would definitely recommend.

Motherwell is a town in the middle of a long change. The terraced streets and ex-council estates that grew up around the steelworks are still the bulk of it, and beside them sits Ravenscraig — 200 acres of the old works cleared for up to 2,000 new homes. Old doors and doors not yet fitted, in other words, and we carry hardware for the whole span, so most jobs are finished in one visit rather than becoming a return trip for parts.

The older streets. Around the town centre, Craigneuk and Flemington there is a good deal of terraced and tenement property, much of it still on timber front doors. Insurers usually expect a five-lever mortice lock meeting BS3621 on a timber door, and plenty of these houses are still on older two- or three-lever locks that would not meet that standard. It is a straightforward upgrade and it does not mean altering the character of the door.

What “insurance approved” actually means. This phrase gets used loosely and it costs people money. For a timber door, insurers almost always mean a five-lever mortice deadlock tested to BS3621, and the lock itself will carry a kitemark you can see on the faceplate when the door is open. For a uPVC or composite door they usually mean the cylinder rather than the door, and the standards that matter are the anti-snap ones. A lock that is merely five-lever, or a cylinder that is merely new, is not the same thing. If you are not sure what you have, we will look and tell you plainly, including when the answer is that what you have is fine.

Ex-council estates. Forgewood, Muirhouse, Jerviston and the rest were built to a common pattern, but right to buy means the doors no longer match. On one street you will find the original council-fitted door beside three privately fitted replacements, all on multipoint locks of different makes and ages. The gearbox inside is not a standard part: a photograph will usually tell us the make, but the size has to be established by taking it out and measuring it. We carry a large stock of the common ones in a range of sizes so most jobs finish on the first visit.

Ravenscraig. Approval came at the end of 2025 for 200 acres of the former steelworks, with remediation starting in 2026 and the potential for up to 2,000 homes as it is built out in phases. It is one of the largest regeneration sites in Europe. If you move into any new home there, two things are worth knowing: builders usually fit a standard euro cylinder, which is not the same thing as an anti-snap one, and a new house typically arrives with three or four doors on three or four different keys, when they could all be keyed alike.

Doors that have started to stick. The most common call across Motherwell is a door that has to be lifted or leaned on before the key will turn — usually the door dropping rather than the lock failing, and far cheaper to correct before the gearbox goes.

Whatever the job in Motherwell, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.
