What Our Customers Say
See why homeowners and businesses trust Scotia Locksmiths.
Colin arrived at exactly the time he said he would. This was great considering the distance he traveled to get here. It took him no time to replace two locks and he fitted locks far superior to the existing ones which gives me great peace of mind. He left plenty spare keys too. Superior service. John

Your local locksmith in Cambuslang
Cambuslang sits on Glasgow’s south-eastern edge and has the housing you would expect of somewhere that has been commuting into the city for a century and a half: Victorian tenement flats and villas near the Main Street, big inter-war and post-war estates behind them, and a very large modern development at Newton on the eastern side. We carry hardware to suit all of it, so most jobs are finished in one visit rather than becoming a return trip for parts.
Tenements and stair doors. Around Main Street, Greenlees and Westburn there are really two doors to think about: the communal stair door and your own front door. They fail in different ways and they are usually different jobs. Stair doors take heavier use than anything else in the building and their locks wear out first. Individual flat doors are often still on the cylinder fitted when the building was converted.
Who is actually responsible for the stair door. This is the question that stalls more repairs than any other, and it is worth being clear about. A communal stair door is shared property. In a factored block the factor normally arranges the work and bills the owners; in a self-factored block the owners agree it between themselves. Either way it is not usually something one flat can order on its own, and a locksmith who quietly does it for whoever phoned first has done nobody any favours. We will tell you which situation you are in, quote for it properly, and where it helps we will put the quote in writing so it can be circulated to the other owners.
Commuter flats and changing tenancies. Cambuslang has a large rented sector, helped by three stations and a fast run into Glasgow. Tenancies turn over often, and a lock change between tenants is the simplest way for a landlord or an incoming tenant to know exactly how many keys exist. Keys get copied, lent to family and never returned, and none of that shows up on a checkout inventory.
Newton Farm. On the eastern side of the town Taylor Wimpey has been building at Newton Farm since 2007, with a masterplan of up to 1,500 homes and a final phase of just over 200 now under way off Harvester Avenue. New homes there, as anywhere, are handed over with a builder’s standard euro cylinder, which is not the same thing as an anti-snap one, and typically with three or four doors on three or four different keys when they could all be keyed alike.
Doors that have started to stick. The most common call across Cambuslang is a door that has to be lifted or leaned on before the key will turn — usually the door dropping rather than the lock failing, and far cheaper to correct before the gearbox goes. When a gearbox does need replacing, the make can often be identified from a photograph but the size cannot: it has to come out of the door and be measured, which is why we carry a large stock of the common ones.
Whatever the job in Cambuslang, you get the same promise: no call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a clear price agreed before any work begins.

Locksmith in Cambuslang: common questions
Yes, we handle individual flat locks and communal stair-door issues across Cambuslang’s tenement housing, as well as houses and villas.
The stair door is shared property, so it is normally a shared cost rather than one flat’s problem. If the block is factored, the factor usually arranges the work and bills the owners; if it is self-factored, the owners agree it between them. We are happy to quote in writing so the quote can be circulated to the other owners, which is usually what unsticks it.
It is the only way to be certain who holds a key. Keys get copied, lent to family and simply not returned, and none of that appears on a checkout inventory. Changing the cylinder is quick and inexpensive, and far cheaper than a deposit dispute or an insurance claim where entry cannot be explained.
Change the cylinder on your own front door. You have no way of knowing how many keys exist or who has them, and nothing in a normal purchase tells you. The stair door is a shared responsibility and usually needs the other owners on board, so start with your own.
